UNDP is a UN program/fund that operates under the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council. It is the UN's global development network and is considered a multilateral development agency. UNDP has efforts in 177 countries and territories that support their own solutions to development challenges and developing national and local capacities that will help them achieve human development and the Millennium Development Goals. UNDP's work is concentrated in four main focus areas:

  • Poverty Reduction and Achievement of the MDGs
  • Democratic Governance
  • Crisis Prevention and Recovery
  • Environment and Energy for Sustainable Development

UNDP helps countries attract and use aid effectively and promotes the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women.
