A survey of suppliers of agro-commodities such as cocoa was undertaken by face-to-face interviews. A review of the literature was done. Insights from relational contracting and social exchange theory were used to formulate research hypotheses which were tested by multiple regression using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. Results indicate a strong support for supplier's sales volume, supplier development and supplier satisfaction as antecedents of supplier performance. The moderating role of supplier development shows a strong support that under conditions of low supplier development, low sales volume does not contribute much to a supplier's overall performance.
