This edited volume looks at the implications of participation in GVCs for improving the productivity and innovative capacity of SMEs in Latin America.  It presents three country case studies of upgrading in natural resource sectors and three case studies of upgrading in manufacturing and service industries, and then proposes some methodological approaches to research and policy support.  This book draws on the empirical findings of the project “Clusters, Value Chains and Competitiveness,” carried out for AGORA 2000, Italy, on behalf of the Micro and SME Division, Department of Sustainable Development (SDS/MSM) of the Inter-American Development Bank.
