Upgrading Strategies in Global Furniture Value Chains

This paper identifies the wood furniture value chain as a good target for value chain interventions in low income countries, due to the large and increasing volume of global trade in the industry.  After presenting the dynamics of process and product up/downgrading, it presents a handful of dimensions along which UNIDO can use the GVC framework to facilitate upgrading in furniture value chains: setting industry policy, targeting furniture value chains, working with individual firms, and working with buyers.
